Refn’s distinctive biopic, exploring the life of the infamous criminal/bare-knuckle boxer/artist Charles Bronson, is a work that attempts to look at the man’s troubled life through his own delusional eyes, providing us with a nightmarish, blackly-comic world inhabited by caricatures, whom only exist to serve Britain’s-Most-Violent-Prisoner’s deluded sense of ego, and in so doing, paints a damning portrait of a system that does very little to protect the sufferers of mental illness and those that come into contact with them.
