Although hamstrung somewhat by the speechifyingly unrealistic dialogue and a general lack of credibility when it comes to prison life, Darabont’s sprawling portrait of a mild mannered banker, wrongly imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover, is, never the less, by the time that it gets to its thoroughly satisfying conclusion, an entertainingly rewarding experience.
