Although the plot doesn’t hold up to much scrutiny, Zwigoff’s entertaining comic book adaptation – chronicling the first tentative steps taken by two lifelong friends into the adult world – is a heartbreakingly beautiful portrait of lives growing in different directions, and a sad statement about the impossibility of individuality in today’s society.
