Although at times logic is in danger of being lost to polemic, Dearden’s beautifully paced film, chronicling a married, non-practicing homosexual lawyer’s attempts to track down a blackmailer targeting the local gay community (homosexuality was still illegal at this point), is a brave, stylish, and important exploration of a, then, taboo subject.
