Despite the somewhat cautious casting of the nevertheless excellent Huffman, and some not entirely convincing plotting, this tale of a pre-op transsexual who, just before her gender reassignment surgery, meets for the first time her unruly teenage son, is an emotionally satisfying if never entirely convincing film.
