Streep, Hoffman, Adams, and Davis are all superb in Shanley’s adaptation of his own acclaimed, pleasingly ambiguous play, chronicling a nun’s attempts to prove that a priest had been abusing a young boy, but while Shanley the writer is successful, Shanley the director may well have watched one Garry Marshall film too many - gripping, never the less.
