Anderson’s exhaustingly and unrelentingly stimulating film – a multi-stranded, loosely connected series of stories, exploring the pain and suffering of a number of Los Angeles residents – is, with its raft of cracking performances, inspired soundtrack, and dazzling visuals, a quite brilliant work, albeit one in desperate need of one or two quieter, gentler moments to allow us a little more time to breathe.
