Pialat’s strangely inconsistent effort - depicting, over an undefined and hard to determine time period, a number of episodes in the life of a sexually precocious young woman, contrasting her sensual private life with that of her often violent home life - is a film that benefits greatly from the excellent and restrained performances of Bonnaire and Pialat, but that is almost ruined by Besnehard and Ker’s frequently overwrought turns.
